Contact the Artist

"I don't just create art — I embody it. My work is made of skin and silence, neon and knowing. I carry the body like a drum, a map, a story — painted in memory and protest. As a two-spirit, non-binary, Indigenous artist, I use color the way others use language. Bold. Unapologetic. Sacred. I do not paint to be understood — I paint to be felt. Every figure, every void, every line is a reclaiming — of gender, of land, of breath. This isn't just art. It's survival turned into ceremony."

Biography

Canne is a two-spirit, non-binary artist of Indigenous heritage whose work challenges, heals, and transforms. A graduate of OCAD, Canne has exhibited in major Canadian venues including Toronto City Hall and the Rogers Centre.

Their work has been featured in publications such as Stolen Generations and Fireweed, and their life and art have been profiled in documentaries and articles including the Toronto Post.

After stepping away from the public eye to focus on personal healing and reclamation, Canne has returned to the art world with a reawakened spirit — blending their lived experience, cultural roots, and experimental style into something unapologetically their own.

Artistic Approach

Canne's work explores the intersection of Indigenous identity, gender fluidity, and contemporary experience. Using bold colors and dynamic forms, they create pieces that speak to both ancestral knowledge and modern realities.

Working primarily in acrylics and mixed media, their paintings often incorporate traditional Indigenous motifs reimagined through a contemporary lens. Each piece invites viewers to reconsider their understanding of identity, belonging, and the natural world.
